Cheesecake (?) in a cup

A few weeks ago, Dierberg's (where I work, if you didn't know) was doing a special where if you bought 12 of participating Kraft products you got $10 off of your Turkey.

However, leave it to employees to discover that you could just buy the 12 products and it would take $10 off of your purchase, whether you had a turkey or not. Well, I needed cream cheese and marshmallows anyways, so I got those and 8 boxes of pudding. Yes, 8. I needed two boxes for a Christmas present anyways (that post will come later after everyone has gotten that gift--Sorry, no spoilers!), so I figured I'd just get the other 6 just so I had the 12 products.

I eventually had this brilliant idea involving pudding, whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs and these cups:

Here's everything I ended up using, minus the chocolate pudding. Didn't need that.

First I made my pudding

Yummy, right? No, I know. Looks like a bowl of milk at the moment. Anyways... I poured some of the pudding (I keep starting to type Jell-O since the box says Jell-O. Gah) into each cup.

Next, I added a layer of graham cracker crumbs.

Added some more pudding.

I like that from the side, you see the graham crackers. That was the point though. Moving on... I then used a closed star tip to pipe a bit of whipped cream on top.

And finally, I added a bit of graham cracker crumbs to the top, just to make them look prettier. :)

Spongebob, take two!

I still cannot believe my little niece is three!

As many of you know, last year Cecelia decided she wanted a Spongebob cake. So, I made her one:

I should not have been surprised when she asked for yet another Bob cake this year! I originally planned to just go back to Karen Ann's and get the same pan like I did like year, but I finally decided to just go buy this pan instead:

Luckily, I learned my lesson last year and it didn't take two tries to make it this year. He came out smoothly the first time!

First you cover the sides with white icing and fill in the few spots on his face with a light yellow.

Next, fill in his eyes and teeth with white.

Then fill his eyes in with blue with black pupils.

I then outlined his eyes, arms, shirt, legs, etc. in black.

Outline parts of his shoes in white.

I skipped a few steps here, sorry. You fill in his tongue with red, mouth with black and body, arms and legs with yellow.

Fill in his shirt, sleeves and tips of his shoes in white.

Outline his cheeks and freckles with red, along with his chin. Fill in his tie with red. Socks in white, with blue and white stripes.

Pants in brown, shoes in black. :)

Now  do his eyelashes and belt in black Shoestrings are white.

Then fill in all excess space with white.

Then I did a chocolate border.

It was adorable!

Triple Birthday Part 3: Penguins!

This post will be quite similar to my normal posts, since Kenny and I actually took photos as we created these. We worked off and on for about four hours on these, but I think they turned out great! So...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KENNY!

Here's everything we used:

As you can tell, there's A LOT there! We've got:

  1. Red Velvet cake mix
  2. Eggs and Oil (for the cake mix)
  3. 1 can of chocolate icing
  4. 2 cans of cream cheese icing
  5. Plain donuts
  6. Donut holes
  7. Chocolate Wafers
  8. Coconut
  9. Marshmallows
  10. Sweedish Fish
  11. Rock Candy
  12. Black food coloring (not pictured)
  13. Yellow fondant
  14. Candy eyes
  15. Paper liners
First, we created the cake batter. I LOVE how red velvet cake batter looks:

While I worked on filling the liners, Kenny worked on slicing the marshmallows and cutting the chocolate wafers in half:

As the cupcakes baked, I sliced 6 donuts in half:

Here are the cupcakes fresh out of the oven (we also made some mini cupcakes, but I forgot to take a picture):

Since the donuts were larger than the cupcakes, we had to cut them down:

We placed a bit of cream cheese icing under the donut and then placed some under a mini cupcake to put it on top, followed by the donut hole:

As you can see, I've already placed a bit of icing around the cupcake/donut hole, but we ended up doing more:

After completing all 12 of the penguins, we placed them in them in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes. However, the penguins weren't the only part to this set of cupcakes. We also made icebergs! We started with a regular cupcake:

I then put cream cheese icing on it (sorry for the blurry photo!):
 Kenny then added the coconut:
Next, we added some sweedish fish:
Finally, Kenny added some of the rock candy:
 Ta-da!
Here's all of them in the tray:

Once the penguins were done, we tinted the chocolate icing black and put it in the microwave to melt it (took about 40 seconds, checking it every 10 seconds):

Kenny says it looked like tar, and I can't help but agree. Anyways, you then take the penguins out of the freezer and dip hem into the melted icing.

Next, we placed the marshmallow slices in the penguin as it's 'stomach:'

Next, cut about a quarter of an inch off of one end of the chocolate wafers so you can place the flat end under the penguin's head (using the cream cheese icing or chocolate icing as glue), with the round sides facing forward:

Next, using a bit of the cream cheese icing as glue, we put the eyes on:

Finally, we added small triangles that Kenny cut out of the fondant as their beaks:

 Ta-da!

The best part, was when Kenny took a bite (completely eating the head), you could look into the penguin and see the red velvet mini cupcake, making it look like blood inside. Was pretty funny. =P
