Life's a Beach

One of my many managers at work had been going through a difficult time, so I thouht I'd surprise him with a cake. The theme? "Life's a Beach." Oh, and yes. Everything is edible.

By the end of my 4 hour shift, this is all that was left. We cut it 2 hours into my shift and had it hidden in the back office but people found it.

Jenny's Cake

One of my best friends, Jenny, just celebrated her 23rd birthday. Therefore, naturally, I made a cake for her. Her favorite colors are black and red, so I kept with those. I still have a ton of pearls from when I did the Cinderella cake, so I wanted to incorporate those. Oh, and I always wanted to try the quilting technique.

Casino Cake

My boyfriend's grandpa turned 80 and I was asked to make a sheet cake and about 100 cupcakes for the event. The party was casino themed, equiped with poker, blackjack, craps, and roulette. The cupcakes were easy! Just white icing and either a red diamond or heart or a black spade or club went on top. The sheet cake was the fun part. Here's the first one I made and iced.

I have no idea what went wrong but obviously something did. So I made another. Side note, that cake still tasted great!

Much better. However, I didn't think to use the extender recipe so it wasnt very tall. So I made a third to make it two layers.

Success! Just need to do some smoothing out.

Off to a good start! Add a little red, shell border.

Now on to the top. The original idea was to use the fondant cutouts (that are also on the cupcakes) and just make a simple border. So I did that.

Then I took a step back and thought, "Wow! This is too plain." I had to determine what else I could make with my black and red fondant (all that I had at the moment) that would go with our "casino" theme. So, I made some dice.

Admittedly,  it looked better,  but still plain. I figured writing the message would take up space and fix it.

Nope. Better. But not fixed. Therefore, along came poker chips. And a border on the board.

So much better! But remember, the cake wasn't it. There were cupcakes, too.

Lots of cupcakes. But it all turned out wondeeful!
